Wow! It’s so good to be back inside a theatre again after what seems an eternity without live performance. I went to see Matilda the Musical at the Cambridge Theatre in London’s West End the other evening and thoroughly enjoyed the experience from start to finish. It was joyous. Like many other people I love Roald Dahl’s stories, since they appeal to people of all ages. We can, I think, relate to many of his characters either in ourselves or as someone we know, or have known. I certainly remember having a broad cross section of teachers that could be extremely spiteful and cruel, and those at the other end of the scale that were kindly and nurtured young talent.

The adaptation of the story by Dennis Kelly is excellent and enhanced by Tim Minchin’s lyrics and musical score. The choreography in the dance scenes is a real joy to watch; the dialogue and songs keep you smiling during the entire performance, making this one of the best shows I have ever seen.

Thank you to the whole cast, production team and all those that made this a memorable evening for me, and my daughter.
