Before visiting the Tower we will visit the most complete section of the old Roman Wall, constructed about 1900 years ago, where its also possible to see the original street level of Londondinium at the time, The Tower of London is a large castle begun in the 11th century and added to over the following two hundred years to create a royal palace. More famously it became the state prison where many notables met their grizzly end including three English queens! Today it is home to the Yeoman Warders (Beefeaters) who are the custodians of the castle. They are also the custodians of the magnificent Crown Jewels, which will be a highlight of your personally guided visit. After exploring the Tower we will then see other local sites linked to the history of the area.
